For the past several months, a group of folks from several different agencies and the local creative industry in the Treasure Valley have been working to make the United Way of Treasure Valley's latest campaign a success.
The end result: an integrated campaign that features a four-minute video, three television spots, newspaper ads, a microsite (HelpTheMostPeople.com), radio, online ads, collateral materials and more. This effort will benefit the United Way Community Campaign, which, in turn, allows the United Way to help over 30 local charities with funding each year, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Idaho Foodbank, Girl Scouts, and more.
This work was done entirely on a pro-bono basis, and those involved sacrificed a great deal of time -- often their personal time, before or after business hours -- to make it happen. At the very least, they deserve some recognition for their efforts. In no particular order, the group involved includes:
David Cook, Stoltz Marketing Group
Paul Carew, Carew Co.
Dave Sloyer, Wirestone
Kristy Weyrich, W Design
Doug Gneiting, Stoltz Marketing Group
Lorena Davis & Crew, North by Northwest
Todd Meier Photography
Robbin Gibson, Drake Cooper
Snake River Technology
The campaign is also benefiting from media donations from The Idaho Statesman, Journal Broadcast Group, and companies such as Citi, who donated funds toward the media buy.
David Cook provides even more detail about this project on the Stoltz Marketing Group website, if you'd like to read about it further.
At the end of the day, however, the goal is to drive as many donations to the United Way as possible. If you can donate, please do. If you'd like to learn more about the how's and why's of the United Way, take a look here.

Fuel 3 Adds Another Station
Okay, so maybe the title's a little too corny, but what else can you do when the imagery splashed throughout Fuel3 Advertising's website are of gas pumps...
But back to the actual story.
Fuel3 has opened an office in Portland, Oregon, to expand the reach of their headquarters in Boise. Now up to a staff of five, the Portland office was opened, and is managed, by Ryan Panitz. Ryan was formerly a reporter and morning anchor with KTVB in Boise, and is also working with the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games on Marketing & Strategic Relationships.
Fuel3's expansion into Portland was also mentioned briefly in this article on The Oregonian's website.
Congratulations to the folks over at Fuel3, and best of luck for continued success.

Local PR Agencies Team Up on National Account
Although this news is a little late in coming, it is worth noting that Murphy Media Services and FusionSet were selected to develop and conduct a media outreach and publicity campaign for the National Diving Dog Tour.
The tour, which takes place across the country, including cities in New Jersey, Wisconsin, California, Tennessee, and Georgia, features dogs launching off a 40-foot stage into a 20,000-gallon pool.
As often as we may make mention of local clients who go out of market for their marketing communications needs, it is nice to see cases like this, where local firms are able to widen their reach and work on accounts that take them across the country, so to speak.
Congratulations to both Murphy Media Services and FusionSet.

Which Would You Prefer
Seeing or hearing an advertisement that is obviously outdated, or seeing/hearing nothing at all?
A couple of recent examples:
There are two new billboards just off of Chinden Blvd, on the North side of the road, near the Hewlett Packard campus. When traveling West, one of the boards is for a movie that was showing on May 30th. At last glance, today's date is August 11th.
Recently seen on a few ValleyRide buses around town: ads for the Shrine Circus, including a schedule, for events that took place back in mid-June.
Yes, it's a recurring theme. The media placement and the message have to play well together. Otherwise, it just looks foolish and lazy.

Eagle Fun Days - A Case Study
Many of your remember the commotion and controversy that took place surrounding the 2006 Rocky Mountain Oyster Feed - part of the annual Eagle Fun Days.
To demonstrate the success of the campaign, and highlight the results, the folks at Draftfcb created a case study video around their efforts, and posted it to YouTube last fall (yes, I know, I'm just getting around to writing about it now. Tough.)
